The iPhone 16 is on the horizon, and rumors are swirling about the latest upgrades and changes Apple has in store for its flagship smartphone. Based on the latest reports, the iPhone 16 lineup is shaping up to be an exciting release for Apple fans.
Bigger Displays for the Pro Models
One of the biggest changes coming to the iPhone 16 is an increase in display size for the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro provides a 6.3-inch display, up from 6.1 inches on the iPhone 15 Pro. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will grow to a massive 6.9-inch screen, compared to 6.7 inches on the current Pro Max.
These larger displays will come with slightly bigger overall dimensions for the Pro models. Apple keeps the thickness the same at 8.25mm and maximize the screen real estate.
Photography enthusiasts will be keen on the potential camera improvements. Spatial Video support could be coming to the standard models, while the Pro variants might boast an upgraded telephoto lens. Under the hood, the A18 chip promises enhanced performance and efficiency, with the Pro models potentially getting an even more powerful variant.
Vertical Camera Arrangement
Another notable design change is the switch to a vertical camera layout on the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models. Previous iPhones have used a diagonal camera arrangement, but Apple is shifting to a vertical setup this year.
This new camera layout is enable the standard iPhone 16 models to capture “Spatial Video” for the upcoming Apple Vision Pro headset. The Pro models will likely retain the familiar square camera bump design.
New Buttons and Features
In addition to the camera changes, the iPhone 16 lineup will introduce a couple of new buttons and features. All four models will get an “Action Button” that replaces the traditional mute switch, allowing for customizable shortcuts and controls.
There will also be a new “Capture Button” on the right side of the device, which will work like a shutter button on a camera to take photos and videos. This button will be flush with the side of the phone, rather than protruding like the volume and power buttons.
Upgraded Internals
Under the hood, Apple will pack the iPhone 16 latest A-series chip, likely called the A18 Bionic. The Pro models may get an even more powerful “A18 Pro” variant. These new 3nm chips should deliver improved performance and efficiency.
Rumors also suggest the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will get upgraded 48MP ultra-wide cameras, as well as the new 5x optical zoom lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 16 models will likely stick with the same camera hardware as the iPhone 15.
Pricing and Availability
Apple will unveil the iPhone 16 lineup in September 2024, with a market release about 10 days later. Pricing might remain the same as the iPhone 15 series, starting at $799 for the base model and going up to $1,699 for the top-end iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Colour Options and Other Features
Apple is expected to offer a fresh color palette, including options like black, green, pink, blue, and white for the standard models. The Pro variants might introduce a new “Rose” or “Desert Yellow” color.
The iPhone 16 is shaping up to be a solid upgrade, with larger displays, new camera features, and improved performance. We’ll have to wait until next fall to see the final product, but the early rumors are certainly promising.
