Arrest of the Telegram CEO

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov arrested in France on Saturday while traveling from Azerbaijan to Paris. They took a 39-year-old entrepreneur into custody at Le Bourget Airport outside Paris as part of an ongoing judicial investigation. 

According to French authorities, the investigation involves 12 alleged criminal violations. Including complicity in selling child pornography, drug trafficking, fraud, and abetting organized crime transactions. 96 hours initially extends Durov’s detention, as per French law. They made a decision on whether to charge or release him.

In response to the arrest, Telegram stated that the company “abides by EU laws” and that “Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide.” Durov, who has dual French and United Arab Emirates citizenship, is known for his libertarian views and his stance on free speech.
